Experts will illustrate the impacts of climate change on islands life
The University of Aruba and the University of Prince Edward Island will jointly host the Second international conference on Small island States and Juridictions of Subnational Island trials-Turning the tide: Climate Change, Social Change and Islandness.
The three-day Conference, October 23-26 is an extremely interesting event, which includes presentations by several speakers and world-renowned experts will be held at the University of Aruba. It is a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the latest scientific visions and discussions about climate change and social changes in the context of the island and to be able to interact personally with the researchers. Islands are on the frontline of climate change. With their close proximity to the oceans, they are the first to experience surface loss due to sea level rise and erosion.
The effects of extreme climate events and changes in weather seasons, in addition to the increase in temperature both on land and at sea impact life and are often catastrophic. But what about that social change on the Islands, due to climate change? How do the effects of climate change impact on islandity, the way the island operates? This interdisciplinary conference proposes to explore the topic of climate change and social change in the islands through the presentations of speakers from the Caribbean, the American continent, Europe and the Pacific region.
The conference will be divided into several parallel sessions, interactive sessions and debates. The most interesting parts of the program are the presentation of four renowned speakers, who are at the helm of research on climate and social change in the context of the island. The conference will feature keynote speakers, who will all talk about the scope of their expertise, namely:
