It is with deep respect and a heavy heart that
Tourism Corporation Bonaire (TCB) takes note of the passing of Mr. Ronnie Pieters, the
first official statutory director of TCB. His leadership and unwavering dedication laid the
foundation for the growth and sustainable development of Bonaire’s tourism industry.
In 1991, Ronnie Pieters became the first official Director of Tourism for Bonaire, following
the establishment of TCB by then Commissioner of Tourism, Ramonsito Booi. Before
assuming this position, Ronnie played a pivotal role in overseeing Bonaire’s first Tourism
Master Plan, which recommended the creation of an independent institution to manage
and promote tourism. That institution became TCB, and under Ronnie’s guidance, the
groundwork was laid for the successful strategies that would shape Bonaire’s tourism
sector for decades to come.
Among his many achievements, Ronnie Pieters finalized and executed Bonaire’s first
sustainable tourism development plan, introduced critical marketing strategies for
Western Europe, and established the first tourism offices in New York, the Netherlands,
and Venezuela. His efforts also led to the expansion of Bonaire’s international presence,
with the opening of a tourism office in Frankfurt, Germany.
Ronnie Pieters was not only a visionary but also a true ambassador for Bonaire. He

spearheaded initiatives like the “Bonaire Tourism Status Report” and community-
focused programs such as “Keep Bonaire Clean” and “Taste of Bonaire”. His passion for

diving and marine conservation resulted in Bonaire becoming a world-renowned dive
destination with the establishment of the annual “Bonaire Dive Festival.”
Perhaps one of his greatest legacies is his commitment to education and awareness.
Ronnie tirelessly worked to educate the people of Bonaire on the significance and value
of tourism, while also ensuring that TCB professionals continued their development
through master programs and specialized training. Many of today’s tourism
professionals began their careers under his guidance, benefiting from his vision and
leadership.
Ronnie Pieters’ contributions to TCB and Bonaire’s tourism industry are immeasurable,
and his work continues to inspire us today. His legacy will remain a cornerstone of the
foundation upon which TCB stands, and his vision will forever be a guiding light for the
future of tourism on our island.
TCB extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of Ronnie Pieters during this difficult
time. We honor his memory and are grateful for his immense contributions to Bonaire.

May his family find strength and comfort in knowing that his impact will be felt for
generations to come.
