The Minister of Education explained that they are working hard on various aspects of education to improve it. The vision of Education in Transition 2021-2025 is based on SDG 4, the “Doorlichtingsrapport” and PEN 2023. So there’s a lot of continuous and parallel work going on.

GUARANTEE the basic conditions for a good and quality education:

An important aspect of education is to ensure and guarantee the basic conditions for good and quality education, in combination with an adequate safety climate.

To achieve this, there must be minimum conditions in place, such as adequate and in good condition buildings, updated materials, sufficient qualified personnel and necessary care for the students. So these basic conditions must be well established in order to guarantee a good quality of teaching. Without these basic conditions, the core functions of education such as qualification-allocation and socialization will be affected. The support to the points described above is necessary and should be in a structural way to guarantee the success of our teaching structure. “We are working hard on this”, said Minister Endy Croes.

Supporting teachers in education is vital to our success and getting the most out of each student. For teachers to perform their work to the maximum capacity, concentrate fully on teaching and help the students who need a team in the schools. So support the teachers in this wonderful work of educating our children. The support team consists of, among others, the Internal Guides, the Remedial Teachers, the “Schoolmaatschappelijke Werkers”, the “Orthopedagogen” and the Psychologists. Therefore, we ought to turn a blind eye to these things. Without this team the social and emotional problems of the students are not given the attention they deserve. Such a team will provide students with a variety of problems with the correct and necessary care. This will provide the students with such problems a better opportunity and a better prospect for a future education. This is the ideal way to work. Currently, teachers are trying to do everything on their own, which leads to possible burnout or the rate of unemployment rising. Besides, today both the concierge and IT can’t be avoided. So, we’ll be working hard over the next few months to determine what the ideal mix is to provide support. The next task will be how to finance this to give real content to the teaching in its entirety. Minister Endy Croes emphasized that for that we will be creative.

Teacher salary structure:

During 2012-2013, work was done on a new function house and a new salary structure for the education sector. It was never implemented and now it’s also 10 years old and out of date. The current system is based on age, type of education and authority whereas as a teacher reaches age 38 he has reached his ceiling and can’t grow any more. Minister Endy Croes will implement this year a commission of experts to work on a model and modern salary structure for teachers.
