Driekel pays tribute, raises awareness, and inspires us Early Saturday morning the public art work ‘Driekiel’ by Aruban artist Gilbert Senchi was moved and installed in the round near Amsterdam Manor. The Minister of Culture Maduro was there in order to welcome another work of public art that will gild the Asturian landscape.
A collaboration of public and private bodies
It was last year in September that Minister Maduro visited Mr. Senchi to his atelier in Colombia in order to observe the works that were being done in order to finish this work of public art that faced little time trial to be completed. With the help mainly of the private sector, and with public funds from UNOCA, ATA and TPEF, this work was completed and could be transferred from Bogotá via Cartagena to Aruba.
A place close to its habitat
The public art work ‘Driekiel’ has found a beautiful place in the round near Amsterdam Manor, which is located nearby where every year the Driekiel come to lay their eggs. It can be observed that the Driekiel looks towards the sea, showing us WHERE its habitat IS, and reminding us to protect it.
Driekel pays tribute, raises awareness, and inspires us
The artwork ‘Driekiel’ pays tribute to all the ‘repeat visitors’ of Aruba, being himself the fixed visitor in Aruba for more than thousands of years. Driekiel also reminds us that Aruba is blessed with a very positive energy that welcomes life and abundance that attracts people and nature to form the circle of life. Driekiel makes us aware of the fragility of our nature and the protection we must give to this endangered species. Driekiel inspires us, our children and visitors to Aruba, to always take care and stay in balance with our nature.
Official announcements will be announced later
The artwork ‘Driekiel’ is still missing a part to be installed so that it can be officially unveiled. These are the driekiel eggs that will soon also arrive in Aruba. In the days ahead the works will be completed and the date for the official unveiling of driekiel will be announced.
