This week the Minister of Culture Maduro received a visit from Mr. doctor. Paul Hector is a specialist in the communication and information area of the UNESCO Caribbean Office. Together with members of the National Commission of UNESCO in Aruba, he has focused on the work of UNESCO in our region and also on the work being done in Aruba on communication and especially in the area of information. 

 

Mr. Hector has provided explanations of the programs in which UNESCO focuses in order to facilitate communication and information in countries of our region. Emphasis is placed on the use of Artificial Intelligence for the work of the public employee in which technical tools are assisted and the necessary attitude is also helped in order to achieve better communications and information that serves as a basis for making good decisions for countries. Apart from helping to formulate strategies for countries such as Aruba can also learn about digital transformation, UNESCO focuses on innovative ways to be able to communicate and collaborate with each other. UNESCO also monitors the use of native languages so that this is kept alive by having information available and accessible in the language.

Minister Maduro explained that in Aruba we are working on several projects in which the authorities collaborate in order to have better communication, to make information more accessible by also giving due attention to our Papiamento language. A good example is the digital platform of coleccion.aw which is the result of a collaboration of a large number of local and international bodies that are becoming the largest digital source of information Papiamento. An initiative that began with a collaboration between the National Library of Aruba and the National Arvhivo of Aruba, which grew a great collaboration of more than 11 partners already. Mr. Hector had words of praise for this collaboration that was recently presented at the Acuril Conference of archives, libraries and museums, held in Jamaica. Mr. Hector indicated that in the Aruba region he is admired for this initiative that serves as a beacon of light that inspires others to also reach out to such collaboration in his country in order to make information accessible in his community. At the end of the pleasant conversation, Minister Maduro thanked Mr. Hector for his visit to Aruba and also to honor us with his presence at the official launch of coleccion.aw it takes place on September 28, which is the International Day of Access to Information proclaimed by UNESCO.
