It is our commitment to leave a better world, and a better quality of life for our future generations

Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes in the company of fellow ministers, Educampus students and representatives of the “Sustainable Development Goals” (SDG) Commission, raised the SDG flag, to commemorate that on September 25, 2015, 193 countries that are members of the United Nations, adopted the 2030 agenda and defined the 17 Global Goals to create a better world.

The Prime Minister indicated that the government of Aruba is committed to achieving the goals, and therefore honors the tradition of raising the SDG flag on this special day. As special guests, the Educampus students were present, who are young people who remind us of the importance and well-being of one and all those who live in our lovely country Aruba, and that we as parents and government do not have to only take decisions for them, but think and take decisions together with them. “it is our commitment to leave a better world, and a better quality of life for them.

The prime minister also explained that the emblems have colorful colors, and they look complicated, but they should be seen as a compass or a “to do list” in which millions of people around the world give their contribution every day. The ultimate goal is to achieve these goals, so that all people on our planet can enjoy a better quality of life, which no one is left behind in the development of their country.

“It is important to say that last week during my visit to the United Nations,  The Government, non-governmental organizations and private companies have come together to reflect and analyze where the world is currently, and how the process of implementing the goals can be accelerated to achieve the desired sustainable development. What has been underlined during the meetings is that this is not only the government’s job, but that of each citizen, organization, and company to give of their part to create a better future for everyone.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a system that underlines the importance of strong values and implements human rights, and encourages everyone to do well so that we can reach the best future.  This is not always easy, but as a government I can say that I am seeing these global goals as a strong agenda in which we can learn from each other, even from other countries, which will give us the necessary tools to face the challenges in an informed and positive way. We have 7 more years to meet these goals, Aruba is on the right track. Therefore, I want to invite entire communities to come together and do our part to achieve these goals, creating a better world for our future generations. A thank you to everyone who is and has been working hard so that we continue to focus on these 17 Objectives,” the Prime Minister said.
