Last Saturday night the gangway of the Freewinds opened to friends from Aruba for a concert that set the crowd on fire. The Freewinds band performed a variety of songs from Santana to Jimi Hendrix with a touch of Latin ballads getting a final standing ovation from the crowd to the sound of the world renowned “Oye Como Va”. After working together with the island leaders and community to get through a disturbing and problematic pandemic, the Freewinds is happy and honored to welcome the population of Aruba onboard once more.
After a special introduction given by famous Venezuelan actress Ruddy Rodriguez and the Port Captain of the Freewinds, Mr. Ken Weber, the crowd was entertained in the Freewinds unique and distinguished Starlight Cabaret by their band composed of International musicians from England, France, Greece and Italy.
“We love to play and perform for the people of Aruba. Over the past many years, we made many friends and it was beautiful to see them tonight in the house and to be on stage performing for them. Music is a universal language that communicates to everyone and we are proud to be able to share it to bring more joy to this island!”, the Lead musician of the Freewinds band stated.
The crowd seemed to have a similar opinion as they cheered and sang along ending up on their feet during the final number.
They left the Starlight Cabaret smiling and expressing feelings described by words such as “great, amazing, awesome, superb, excellent, tremendous!” The common message that shines from their enthusiasm is the happiness of being back onboard the Freewinds ship that has been part of their lives and the lives of many people in the Caribbean for the last 35 years.
“The Freewinds is always here for us, they are just part of the community, we could call it family. They do all they are doing for our community and for other communities within the Caribbean because this is part of their vision and philosophy”, said Mr. Errol Zebeda, Head of Operational Management Aruba Police, who enjoyed the concert with his wife and some friends.
