Last Saturday took place the first Battle of the Barriers in San Nicolas. “Baki in Bario”, which is part of the national “Limpi Limpi”campaign, is an event where trash cans are placed in different districts of Aruba. The goal of this event is to raise awareness among our population about waste separation. So by separating waste, we help the recycling process run more efficiently and in turn, contribute to less pollution in our environment.
Early on the saterday morning, a large crowd gathered at the boats, about seventy-five men.
- 20 cans of bulk/mixed waste
- 1 bucket of construction waste
- 6 buckets of metal waste
- 1 bucket of e-waste
- 6 buckets of green waste
The Ministry of Nature is extremely pleased that the significant amount of waste that has been collected can now be properly processed. This is a waste of which much of our nature would have stood still.
The exceptional reception of “Baki in Barrio” is a sign that our community is willing to adopt sustainable practices. The separation is a relatively new concept in our community and it’s something that takes a change of mindset to implement permanently.
At each event of “Baki in Barrio” there will be a stand of FPNC (Fundation for Our Community) where they will accept articles in good condition that can be given a second use by a new owner. These include furniture, clothing, toys and more.
Additionally, Serlimar will also have a stand where customers can come pay the bill and request the transportation of their waste in case of non-delivery. It’s also possible too make a apointment.
“Baki in Bario “will continue on September 16 in Santa Cruz and will continue until December 16, 2023. For more information about this topic you can go to trashtocasharuba.org/limpilimpi.
