State Secretary Alexandra van Huffelen formally shared the correspondence between the ministry and the Financial Supervision Committee (CFT) regarding Ennia with the Dutch Parliament yesterday. The confidential letter in question had leaked to the media over the weekend.
In her letter dated August 25th, regarding the refinancing of COVID loans to the three countries Aruba, Sint Maarten, and Curaçao, the State Secretary reported that there was a broad agreement on ENNIA, which had been agreed upon by the civil servants of Curaçao, Sint Maarten, and the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten (CBCS).
It was stipulated that Ennia would undergo a restart with a substantial capital injection from the countries, funded by a loan from the Netherlands. However, the Financial Supervision College of Curaçao and Sint Maarten raised critical comments about this proposed solution.
Although the first piece of advice was directed solely to the Curaçao government and the message that the State Secretary received from the CFT constitutes confidential correspondence that is not typically made public, she is sharing this correspondence with the Dutch Parliament exceptionally, in consultation with Curaçao and the Committee.
The intended loan from the Netherlands to Sint Maarten and Curaçao for Ennia will be submitted to the Parliament for approval at a later date, according to Van Huffelen.
On Wednesday, the Parliamentary Committee will debate with the State Secretary regarding the refinancing of the COVID loans. Due to the leak of the Financial Supervision Committee’s letter, it is expected that Ennia will be part of the discussion. curacao chronicle
