Dutch State Secretary for Finance Aukje de Vries was in Bonaire and at a press conference elaborated on his meeting with the Customs. According to the ambassador, one day is too short to see all kinds of things on the beautiful island of Bonaire, but this time it is about customs, but also to talk to the parents who are struggling on Bonaire.
Unfortunately, on Bonaire too, parents who have lost their cases in the subsidy issue due to the mistakes of the tax agency and also due to the policy of parental fraud must be addressed. Dutch Finance Minister Aukje de Vries acknowledges that he was happy to be able to talk to some of these parents to see how they are doing, but we try to give parents as much support and the same help as they would in the Netherlands.
It’s amazing every time and it’s also deeply touching when you hear each of their stories and how much pain the issue of pay has caused each of these parents.

I think it’s very important that we strengthen border controls to also protect the island.

We’re trying to deal with the drug trafficking situation, but we can’t do it alone, and we need other countries in South America, but certainly here on Bonaire as well, but also the other islands like Aruba and Curaçao, to see how we can deal with information and exchange information.
