Scouting Aruba is celebrating St. George’s Day

Scouting Aruba Ta Celebra Dia Di San Jorge

Every year the Scout movement celebrates and commemorates St. George’s Day (Sint Joris Dag).

This takes place on April 23. This year Scouting Aruba will hold a big event on April 22 to celebrate this special day in the world of scouting where we will count on the participation of over 350 members accompanied by their family members.

Our event will take place on Saturday from 5:00 to 8:30 pm in Carnival Village in San Nicolas. Between 6:15 and 7:00 pm we will hold a parade in the streets of St. Nicholas. People from Aruba and especially from San Nicolas are invited to attend this event.

On St. George’s Day we remember the great warrior who fought against evil and persecuted innocent citizens for their faith and beliefs. We also use the moral of the legend of how St. George killed the dragon to educate our scouts to always fight for what is right and just. Always make it your priority to be honest, responsible, dignified, fulfill your civic duties and keep your commitments in everything you do. All these are characteristics of St. George as a great warrior for his people.

Our Scouting founder chose St. George as the patron saint of all Scouts merely because of the above qualities. This is just where our founder saw fit for all scouts to look. Never give up in life, set goals and work toward them, help your neighbor, do what is right, and always have confidence in your own abilities.

On St. George’s Day, all of us as scouts – beers, welp, verkenner, explorers, voortrekker, leaders, collaborators and commissioners – renew our pledge from the day we were installed and commit to creating a better world, with peace and justice. From now on we wish a happy St. George’s Day to all our national members in Aruba, our Scout brothers and guides in Aruba and all other Scouts around the world. Celebrate with great honor and pride our special day!

Scouting Aruba is the national association that coordinates twelve local scout groups around Aruba that currently consists of 500 members. Founded on 23 April 2000 and currently 23 years leading the movement for the good of our country Aruba. The Scout movement in Aruba has been in existence for over 92 years and with a view to the future will continue to provide quality scouting on our island based on its strategic plan and leaders with commitment and responsibility to guide our members.
