On Monday in Parliament, Prime Minister Evelyn Wever – Croes addressed all MPs who have not yet given their opinion on the fact that MP Benny Sevinger has been sentenced for corruption. The Prime Minister said that the people deserve to know what they think about the sentence.
Since the ruling of the Court of Justice in the Avestruz case, various expressions have been noted, particularly from opposition supporters. What stands out are statements that try to minimize the fact that MP Sevinger was found guilty of corruption. The Prime Minister said: “You cannot say Benny Sevinger is a thief or a corrupt thief, because that makes you the same or more of a thief than him”.
Unfortunately, bad practices continue to take place in the party. It has come to the attention of the Prime Minister from within the AVP, that MP Mike Eman charges a fee as “fraction leader” but does not work as a fraction leader. The Prime Minister said that any person who receives a salary or a salary that he does not deserve should be treated and taken away from him.
This is the time for other MPs including Miguel Mansur, Marisol Lopez – Tromp, Aquanette Gunn, and Mervin Wyatt Ras, to start expressing themselves and giving their opinions so that people know what they think of Sevinger’s verdict.
Rycond Santos do Nascimento, Gerlien Croes and members of the coalition have already given their opinions, but the rest must also give theirs.
Finally, Prime Minister Wever – Croes stressed that the people of Aruba deserve to hear the opinions of the people’s representatives on this important issue. “If they don’t come out with an opinion, it’s because they are as corrupt and thieves as Benny Sevinger.
