With the celebrated historian Jeanne Henriquez and a room full the cycle ended with two and a half hours of lessons on the history and culture of Curaçao. The first lesson was about Mother Earth Africa, the continent that sows humanity. The continent was the cradle of the first advanced civilizations the world has ever known. Seventy interested people, both young and old, followed the lesson very carefully. Another group attended online classes.
The course consists of 10 lessons and ends on June 23, 2023. At the end, participants will receive a certificate of successful participation. In the following lessons we will discuss what is colonialism and colonialism in Curaçao, slavery, transatlantic trade, the consequences of slavery on people today, African presence in Curaçao culture, oppression and resistance of the people and finally what happened after the abolition of slavery in 1863?
