In a public meeting on August 22, 2023, the Government of Aruba came to explain where we stand now regarding the refinancing of the COVID-19 related loan and also provided information on the condition attached to it, namely the RAft. RAft is the Kingdom of the Netherlands-imposed consent law that regulates financial supervision for Aruba.
Once again the presence of opposition was marginal. Of the 10 members, 3 to 4 members were present in the Parliament hall throughout the meeting. In total 9 members of the opposition spoke but certainly not all had the decency to be in the room when the Government answered their questions, gave explanations, and/or corrected their criticisms or lies.
During the meeting a number of barbarities were brought forward by the opposition
minority to justify their language and surrender attitude. Certainly during the meeting I emphasized the lack of the warrior fire that you must have to stand up for your people, to stand up for what is right, to defend the noble throne that you have to be a representative of the people. A lack of character and a certain display of courage. Phrases like “RAft” are terrible but necessary, and the Dutch no longer trust Aruba because we have no choice but to take what they offer. Comparisons with different countries without taking the time to compare the situation in the Kingdom itself.
For if he had been delayed, he would have been delayed also.
we as partners in the kingdom treat each other, we certainly don’t offer favourable conditions that can really help our country and our people. Why don’t you ask why? Why don’t you question this attitude of the Netherlands? If you agree with a supervisory Rijkswet, there is at least the decency to make sure that it is fair and in the interests of our country. Finally, once again, we can see that we cannot put on the mantle of Aruba and the general welfare and instead put our own welfare (because they have no party) or the welfare of the party first.
One direction the entire opposition has come to focus on: attack and discredit
Government of Aruba. All with the goal of attacking, breaking and playing cheap opposition politics instead of wearing the uniform of Aruba and standing up for what is right, so there can be no political maturity and for once in the history of this country we can stand together. Many want to forget that we have just emerged from a pandemic, many want to forget why the money was lent (especially to those who were most helped), many have forgotten about the “great consensus” and the “take it or leave it” situation, some have forgotten how they themselves shouted or counseled against the RAft. How sad it is to see and hear that even now those who are supposed to be wise or knowledgeable continue to cause divisions and to stir up trouble instead of being upright in what is right!
