The history of Aruba has a lot to tell, many monuments that keep it alive in our community, reflecting a history and a past with different details that may be insignificant samples but it really is an incredible and valuable one.
Aruba can count on monuments located in the heart of a district that is gradually being filled with different arts that amaze every tourist who comes to enjoy a part of Aruba that reflects the creativity and beauty of our country.
If we are talking for themselves about the beautiful and creative district of San Nicolás, which for a long time has been changing little by little as the simply most beautiful district of our country because of the arts that are exhibiting, each one dedicated and with a different story, one made for not only its beauty but also to strengthen our history and expand the knowledge of ourselves in our history and past.
Nicolaas Store, which by the way bears the name of the district where it is located, expands and gives a different heartbeat to the heart of San Nicolás, San Nicolás is a district where many people go for a little quiet and where having a coffee in Nicolaas Store can be a possibility. Nicolaas Store is located halfway where your exploration for a day full of art and history can start.
Nicolaas Store, can also be known as a place that Monument fund foundation Aruba bought from the Nicolaas family in August 2013. Once the building has been restored to its former glory, the Nicolaas Store will host the Community Museum.
To carry out this project, the Monument fund foundation Aruba worked together with the Monument bureau Aruba and the Nationaal Restoration fund of the Netherlands. The restoration began in 2014 and by September the project was completely finished.
Built around 1940, it consisted only of the ground floor and served as a store where books, instruments, newspapers, gifts, etc. were sold. Later, the first floor was built and became the house where the owner lived with his family. Nicolaas store was a very popular store at the time. The building was empty for about 20 years.
Now this building is not only a Museum, but a Community Museum that shares the stories of the community as we know it. And it is that it is the “real” contact of the past of San Nicolás and Nicolaas Store. But it is also the Kulture Cafe building, which provides a place that can be spent learning something about our past and history but also enjoying a sweet meal and coffee.
Its new opening hours from August 15, 2023 will be.
Tuesday to Friday 9:00am-5:00pm/ Sunday 10:00am-2:00pm
