Otmar Oduber (politician): After 40/ 45 years since the refinery closed in 1985/1986, practically an entire village in San Nicolas is paralyzed

Otmar Oduber

The governor have to make decisions, politician Otmar Oduber points out, politicians are often afraid to make decisions for all sorts of reasons. According to Otmar Oduber if you don’t make a decision you will never see a change. When you can make a decision is when you have a vision and explain what you want to do for the community so that the community can see and feel that it works for them.

The reality is that there is no political vision at the moment, they are singing behind the scenes where the Netherlands is determining for us what we should do, and actually that’s what Aruba is doing like a good child in the class doing his homework to see if he can pass his exam, but at the end of the day we are not preparing ourselves for a vision until there is a political determination to take decisions for actions to take place in the future.

Unfortunately it seems for years that for many years I as a politician have been voicing my opinion that they are and are not of the popular eye seeing that people are afraid of change. When talking about privatization of a department people are afraid of a change they create and think of things that are not, for example they will lose people from work. According to politician Otmar Oduber, this is not true.

It’s going to be the most efficient process where you have to create opportunities for the worker. A great example is the A.T.A department where the politician Otmar Oduber was the minister of tourism and created a Sui Generis model where before A.T.A cost the government 37 million florins per year in taxes from the people, today we can see an A.T.A that has a budget of over 100 billion florins that it does not receive from the government but A.T.A returns money to the government. As we all know the last government just increased the roomTAX from 9% to 12%, which brings in an additional 40 million florins in government revenue.

According to Politico Otmar Oduber Outside of the measures announced to date no one has been heard to speak on it. Aruba should have a vision and first of all we need to know and determine where we want to go and what we want to achieve. For San Nicolas what is the decision to make and not to wait or to base between different proposals or opportunities like one rat wants a hotel, one rat wants a refinery, then wants something different at a refinery and then one rat doesn’t want a hotel, all these uncertainties have been put on hold for 40 years or almost 45 years after the refinery closed its doors in 1985/1986 that practically the entire population of San Nicolas around our island has not been able to get out of the debate that has been going on since then.

These steps really determine a politician’s future where they have a vision. It must be certain that there is a vision to execute the vision and bring about action that can bring the community and bring everyone together under one roof that is government, private sector, labor, agencies, unions, unions behind a single goal to achieve the objective.
