Eng Musicians Cry Out For Help Before It Is To Late

According to the latest rumors, something must be done to clean up the musical entertainment at a prestigious hotel nearby on our island, before foreigners takes this over.

So the cry for help is coming from the mouths of our local musicians, indicating that this hotel is apparently giving more and more privileges and space to musicians who are not ‘children of Curaçao’. We are talking about groups of foreign singers, dancers and musicians who come to our island to profile, stay at the hotel as the main stars, and then retire from our island.

It is a reality that each hotel chain and its management are free to invite, approach and also hire the artist of their own taste, and/or according to their conviction that it would be best for their guests. I’m not against it. However, we must also support our local musicians and their art. The main problem is not that there are international musicians profiling in our hotels.    Certainly not, considering that competition always keeps you alive and alert.

But if you stop the locals and hire the above mentioned ones. This is certainly not acceptable. And with all due respect to those involved, it is not possible to pass any artist over our local artists. If this kind of harassment is allowed to continue, soon the people of Curaçao will also get tired and will have to live outside, so that he can guarantee his contribution to the arts and bread on his table for himself and his family.

So through this statement we extend a cry of help to this hotel chain, as our Minister in charge of culture, to together try to safeguard our local artists. Anyone and everyone who wants to visit our island will always be welcome. But there must be a balance, and the privilege is first given to the son of Curaçao.
