Mr. Andre Gosselaar a local youth appointed as notary

Minister Di Husticia Curacao

At the request of the Minister of Justice, Mr. Shalten Hato, the Council of Ministers unanimously appointed Mr. Andre Gosselaar as notary. Mr. Gosselaar is a young man who was born and lives on our beautiful island. Mr. Gosselaar has extensive experience in notarization serving as a notary-candidate (kandidaat-notaris) and currently holds the position of deputy notary.

The process for appointing a notary falls under the responsibility of the Minister of Justice. The process implies that after the interested parties have been solicited, the President of the Court of Common Pleas is in charge of channeling the solicitation process which involves among other things listening to the interested parties. Next, the President of the Court of Common Pleas makes a proposal to the Minister of Justice, indicating which candidates he considers best equipped to fill the current posts.

By law, the Minister of Justice receives a proposal that includes a maximum of three (3) potential candidates from which the Minister can choose. The proposal is not final, so the Minister has some freedom to make the decision that he considers best and he bears governmental responsibility for this decision.

Recently there was a vacancy for a notary in Curaçao. In this context the Minister of Justice proposed to the Council of Ministers to appoint Mr. Andre Gosselaar as notary and thus fill this vacancy.
