This week a delegation from the European Union was visiting Aruba to, among other things, inspect the construction of the new faculty of the University of Aruba, known as SISSTEM. Minister Wever is the Territorial Authorizing Officer (TAO) for projects funded by the European Union, such as the ongoing SISSTEM.
The new faculty of the University of Aruba started 4 years ago and recently started the renovation of the monumental building known as “Maria Convent”, behind the church of Oranjestad, next to the University of Aruba. After a public tender Albo Aruba won the project and work began to completely renovate the buildings. Minister Wever, along with the delegation of the European Union, representatives of the University of Aruba and representatives of the United Nations Development Program made the inspection.
This is a very beautiful and important project, where we will expand the possibilities for studying in Aruba, at the Bachelor, Master and PHD levels. The project was funded by the European Union, but also with a financial contribution from the University of Aruba and the Government of Aruba, according to Minister Geoffrey Wever.
Representatives of the European Union were pleased to see the progress of the renovation work, and were impressed that the monumental building will soon be fully renovated, Minister Wever said.
