From the youngest wing of the PNP, Hubentut Nashonal, its President, Member of Parliament Gwendell Mercelina Jr., wishes to express his great admiration for the historic step that our party leader Ruthmilda ‘Mimi’ Larmonie-Cecilia is taking today (November 1, 2024). Her swearing-in as a Member of Parliament and faction leader is not only an important moment for the PNP, but for the role of parliamentary democracy in Curaçao.
In conversations within Hubentut Nashonal, we see that party leader Mimi represents an example, the strength and determination of the Curaçaoan woman. Her willingness to enter and continue serving in Parliament after serving and working hard in government as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of SOAW demonstrates an unprecedented commitment to the people. She is an inspiration to us all, and especially to the younger generation that she has supported in the way she leads with correct politics based on values in our country.
This step underlines the fundamental values of the PNP: service, professionalism, and perseverance. Larmonie-Cecilia’s leadership gives us confidence in the future. Together with the PNP, we will continue to work for a Curaçao where good governance is important, where transparency is essential and everyone has equal opportunities for justice to prevail.
Hubentut Nashonal also wishes to express its immense gratitude to Elvin Gerard for his dedication and commitment to our people and party. His decision to make his seat available to the party leader is a sign of true greatness. Like Osepa and Mercelina, who previously made their seats available when the PNP was removed from government, Gerard’s action for the future is great. The role of Gerard’s voice remains a valuable force within the PNP and we wish him every success in his new role.
The PNP is a democratic party and the best reflection of our people. With party leader Mimi Larmonie-Cecilia as Member of Parliament and PNP faction leader, we will continue to work with renewed energy for a Curaçao that is moving in the right direction.
