Judicial cooperation between the islands of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Suriname

Currently Minister of Justice of Curaçao Shalten Hato, Minister of Justice of Aruba Rocco Tjon and Minister of Justice of Sint Maarten, Ms. Richardson is in Surnameo at the invitation of the Minister of Justice, Mr. Amoksie In an effort to enhance public safety, Ministers are participating in this working trip to conclude concrete agreements for intensive strategic collaboration in the judicial chain.

Only by collaborating with partners in the Kingdom and in the neighbourhood can we use best practices to serve our communities even better. Given their similarities in opportunities and threats in the Kingdom countries it is more than logical to work together to combat crime.

During the working trip to Surnam, the Ministers discussed topics such as neighborhood directors, undermining criminality, projects for the re-socialization of incarcerated persons, camera projects and policies regarding the undocumented.

The working trip will additionally contain visits to, among others, Opa Doeli (penitentiary for youth), department of serious crimes, police academy, Santo Boma prison, Court of Justice, Public Ministry, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and also visit to President Surnameo. The purpose of this trip is to sign a letter of intent for intensive cooperation in the judicial chain between the four countries.
