Eng Joint Efforts For Sustainable Mobility Accessibility On Bonaire Will Be An Important Step Forward

External stakeholders gathered again during the third session on sustainable mobility and accessibility, organized by the Spatial Planning and Development Directorate on behalf of the OLB. This meeting marks a crucial step in addressing Bonaire’s mobility challenges. Collaboration, listening to each other and joining forces are central to this successful effort.

The OLB understands that the need for transport on Bonaire is growing and realizes that it is important to keep the island easily accessible. The pursuit of a structurally organized public transport system, together with sustainable and vital alternatives such as cycling and walking, are central to the vision for the future mobility of Bonaire. We test every possible solution against six preconditions; Inclusive (for everyone), accessible, safe, sustainable, affordable and innovative.

Under the guidance of Sustainable Mobility & Behavior Advisor, Marc van der Seijs (Consultancy & Morgen), more than twenty local organizations and stakeholders were invited during the sessions, including Fundashon Mariadal, Fundashon Cas Boneriano, Chamber of Commerce, BIA, WEB, Bonhata, MiVaBo, TCB, Stinapa, Rocargo and Maduro Bonaire, invited to collaborate and share ideas. In preparation for the session, each of them also participated in an interview about the theme.

This meeting generated great enthusiasm and collaboration among the participants, who were inspired by examples of mobility and accessibility solutions from around the world but also from the region. Each participant also recognized the importance of cooperation between parties in order to succeed in this design and vision. By working together on assignments, valuable and applicable ideas emerged. The OLB emphasizes that strong integrated support from all sectors is crucial for the success of the mobility plan, “Deputy Thielman emphasized”. We are grateful for the efforts of all participants in this successful session. Collaboration and a shared vision are essential to improve mobility on Bonaire. The board will continue to work towards these goals, and we greatly appreciate everyone’s contributions.
