The inaugural conference of the Dutch Caribbean Agriculture Livestock and fisheries Alliance (DCALFA) kicked off on Sunday 26 May 2024 with a one day working visit to Saba.
The official opening of the 26 May to 1 June conference being hosted by the Statia Government is scheduled for Tuesday 28 May. However, the visit to Saba gave representatives of the Dutch Caribbean islands an opportunity experience initiatives in agriculture, livestock and fisheries in the sister island and to exchange ideas with the Saban counterparts.
The group visited the Saba Reach Farm, a local goat farm, a chicken farm, the hydroponics farms and fishermen’s storage facility.
The delegation was led by the island commissioner responsible for agriculture, Arlene Spanner, and the Aruban minister, Ursell Arends, and included directors, managers and policy advisers from the department of agriculture, as well as board members of the Statia Farmers Foundation.
