The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) together with the Department of Labor and Research (DAO) and the Central Bank of Aruba (CBA) will conduct the Labor Force Survey 2023 (LFS2023). The LFS2023 aims to provide a detailed and up-to-date view of the labor market in Aruba.
It will also collect information on the characteristics of participants and non-participants in the labor market. In this way it is possible to make an in-depth analysis of the composition of the labor market of Aruba and also compile important indicators, such as e.g. the employment and unemployment rate in Aruba, the degree of participation of men and women in the labor market and the level of education of those who are employed and not employed.
A total of 4,050 homes will be visited
A team of 27 surveyors will approach a total of 4,050 households that have been selected from CBS’s address database. These homes are scattered around Aruba. Surveyors will approach households individually over a period of 6 weeks. Starting at 8 a.m., pollsters will conduct polls until 8 p.m. When approaching a home, a surveyor must identify himself with a badge. On this badge are his name, his portrait, the logos of CBS, DAO, CBA and the LFS2023. Each respondent will also receive a T-shirt with the LFS2023 logo. If a pollster does not have the LFS2023 shirt on, they can always identify themselves with the badge.
The LFS2023 questionnaire
At the beginning of the questionnaire, some basic questions will be asked of each person in the household. This will be followed by specific questions about the workforce. These questions will be asked only to people aged 15 and over. The reason behind this is that according to the principles of the International Labour Organization (ILO), all persons 15 years of age and older are considered as part of a country’s labor force. It should be emphasized that it is extremely important for all persons aged 15 or over to participate in the survey, whether they are employed, unemployed or not active on the labor market (for example because they are attending school or, in the case of older adults, already retired).
In this way a complete overview of all those who are part of the Aruba workforce can be obtained. The questionnaire contains questions on topics of importance to the labor market, including: education, function, sector of employment, working hours, etc. A new topic included in the LFS2023 questionnaire is work-life balance/family time. The questionnaire will be completed in a digital format (via a tablet).
Privacy
It should be emphasized that all information will be processed anonymously and will be published only in aggregate form. The information collected will help those in charge of formulating and implementing labor policies to do so more effectively and based on current data from Aruba. The information collected will also serve to inform those in the private sector as well as those in the education and training sectors.
research, and the general public about the latest developments in Aruba’s labor market. The privacy of each household and each person participating in LFS2023 is guaranteed by the research team (CBS, DAO and CBA). The information collected will contribute to providing a comprehensive view of current developments on the Aruba labor market. Therefore, the participation of each household and individual approached by our survey team is essential!
We would like to thank each household and individual in advance for their participation in LFS2023.
