First International Meeting of Poets in Aruba

From May 9 to 18, Aruba hosts local, regional and international contemporary poets. It is a cultural and literary exchange with attention to minority languages and innovative/experimental use of language, especially in poetry.
The artistic director is the Aruban-Argentine poet/writer Arturo Desimone who has several books of poetry and publications to his name, among others in England and Argentina. Her articles have also appeared in magazines in the United States, Mexico and Spain.

On May 9 and 10, from 7:30 to 9 p.m., the National Archaeological Museum of Aruba – MANA will host a variety of activities. The first night in the Garden of My Grandmother, there is a tribute to Nydia Ecury. A special guest artist is his son Caresse Isings who is a sculptor and theatre poet.

Poets from Chile and Puerto Rico will recite Nydia’s works for the first time in Spain. There will also be an introduction to the publication “Caracolas and Thunder of the Dutch Caribbean” by Jamila Medina Ríos. Ms. Jamila is a Cuban poet and academic specializing in Cuban literature in exile. Close. Jamila collaborated on the first Spanish translation of Nydia Ecury’s work "Voice of Blood." Arturo Desimone himself will also recite her poetry and Jair Britten will present music inspired by indigenous culture.

On Wednesday, May 10, there will be a recital with Latin American popular music integrated with the dance of Samanta Wester Juppa. There will be presentations by the poets Jesus Montoya (Venezuela), Juana Adcock (Scotland-Mexico), John Martinez Gonzales (Peru) and Ralph Winedt (Corsou). The location for the second night in MANA is in front of Dun Dun House with presentations on its majestic balcony. The National Library of Aruba in Playa will be held on Thursday, May 11 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm In the evening a conversation and recital by other poets from Peru, Chile, Venezuela and Puerto Rico. A discussion on poetry publishers in Puerto Rico and how they publish despite limited resources and the current crisis.

The University of Aruba also ceded two events. On Monday, May 15th at 6pm to 8pm there will be a declamation of international and multilingual poetry with Wilson Alves Bezerras from Brazil. It will lead to conversations about the liberating power of translation and multilingualism. The next day, May 16, There is a three-hour class at 5 p.m. on the art of translation.
