Buzzy Bees Inn and Daycare Centre held an emergency drill at the institution’s premises last Thursday. Members of Caribbean Netherlands Fire Department BKCN visited the daycare centre at the request of Buzzy Bees Inn and Daycare Centre Director Rosalie Lopes.
A child spraying water from a fire hose as other children wait their turn. During the drill, the children were taught how to safely exit the building in case of an emergency, such as a fire or earthquake. The children who could not walk were taken out via cribs, walkers, or by being carried by an adult.
Outside, BKCN officials allowed the children to tour the fire truck and interact with some of its controls. A highlight for the children was to hold the nozzle and watch water spray from the fire hose. Their excitement was infectious, and some of the children started to dance.
Firefighters Angela Stephania and Igmar Fortin said they were happy to accommodate the daycare centre’s request and spend a part of their day with the children.
Lopes thanked BKCN and the firefighters for their participation. When the firefighters left the daycare centre, they honked the fire truck’s horn and put on its siren. This caused the children to laugh and jump around with exhilarated squeals.
