The Chico Harms Foundation is a vibrant organization with the purpose of complementing and enhancing the Aruban folklore and culture. The annual Cultural Parade began under the guidance of the Chico Harms Foundation in 2010 with 250 participants. To this day, the foundation is still in place and this year more than a thousand participants were counted. During the weekend, the Chico Harms Foundation organized several activities in connection with the Cultural Parade.
According to Mr. Harms, this year the organization held several activities to enlarge the parade, starting from May. The largest events they held were the ‘Cantica de Caya’ and the Coronation of the Queens. The song of the parade is organized by the winning song, which will dominate the parade during the parade. As for the coronation itself, it was decided that a Queen should be chosen from among the seven groups that participate in events. There are a total of twelve groups, but seven participated.
The weekend began with a new parade, the Lantern Parade on Friday. On Sunday, the Cultural Parade was postponed for an hour because of the sun and heat and started at 5 so participants could enjoy our culture in a cooler environment.
The idea is to share our culture not only with our locals, but certainly in the tourist area as well. This year also saw the participation of folklore groups from Curaçao, Sembra Alegria, as well.
