Director of the Aruba Ports Authority Marc Figaroa: Carnival Mardi Gras is the second LNG ship to dock in Aruba in June

Marc Figaroa

Interest in Aruba remains high, there are several meetings taking place in the cruise world and there is a lot of interest in the high lines such as Explora Journeys, Ritsz Carlton, Star Legend and Richen of the Seas which are of great interest to Aruba.
As these lines have several ongoing conversations, they are coming to Aruba already, but they wish to come to Aruba more often in the future. In June Carnival Mardi Gras will be in Aruba which is the second LNG ship to visit Aruba soon. Carnival Celebration is the first LNG ship to visit Aruba. This is certainly important for APA where Aruba focuses on the sustainability aspect and APA certainly supports this as well.

There are several conversations going on about different options on the table to attract more traffic during the low season. According to the APA’s director, the fruits of the changes to the low season will probably be seen in 2025. There are various conversations with different lines of thought to look for opportunities, but also to work together with our sister islands Bonaire, Curacao, Cartagena and Panama to evaluate what can be done between the islands themselves and are evaluating various scenarios to see what are the best options but the partnership between the islands is extremely important.

Puerto Rico remains a very important port for Aruba as it is easier to have a cruise ship call within a week. According to APA director Marc Figaroa, the ships are currently leaving from Miami, Fort Lauderdale or Port Canaveral and it takes about 8 to 10 days to reach Aruba, which impacts a weekly call. There are several conversations going on with Puerto Rico to see what their plans are to see if Aruba can achieve a homeport through Puerto Rico that will also help in part for the upcoming season.
