The (NIPV) Dutch Institute for Public Safety today transfers three mobile emergency pumps and associated hose trough, to the naval fire brigade. Soon these will be going to Curaçao and Aruba. These systems (HCP containers) are intended for the naval barracks on the islands. But the local fire brigade can also use them in case of flooding. The naval fire brigade and the NIPV signed the transfer agreement today.

The mobile emergency pumps can be deployed in an (imminent) emergency situation, during the hurricane season, for example in the event of a flood. The pumps are suitable for pumping out large quantities of water.

“On the Caribbean Islands they do not have these systems”, says commander of the Marine Fire Brigade, deputy chief commander Twan Langenhuizen. “That is why instructors from us also go along. They teach the local fire brigade how to operate the pumps. Thanks to this collaboration, we have both resources and people there who can deploy the systems.”

Also in the Netherlands the naval Fire Brigade works closely with the Civil Fire Brigade. For example in the coordination of calamities and fires in the upper part of North Holland.

Oil screens and firefighting foam
According to Langenhuizen the pumps are part of a larger package of resources which is going to the Caribbean Islands. Think of oil screens and fire-fighting foam. By working together with the fire brigades on the islands, we can better protect the barracks without staff having to go there.”

Knowledge Institute
The NIPV is the knowledge institute for crisis management and fire services. The organization strengthens security regions, the Kingdom and other crisis partners with research, education, information and support.
