On Monday morning, the second day of Easter, around 15 CITRO volunteers stood ready to accompany the Carifta Open Water competitions in Caracas Bay. This was done in cooperation with the Coast Guard because Carifta had also asked officials to accompany them. With a dozen Sea-Boxes, including those of CITRO, the Coast Guard and some volunteers, and the C-Rescue 1, a special CITRO lifeboat, they sailed from the fishing port in Spanish waters to Caracas Bay. The conditions were challenging. Because of a strong wind, it was poison rough. The more than a hundred participants swam a distance of no less than three miles in three groups; first the girls and then the boys in two groups. Eventually, a dozen swimmers had to be rescued from the water, mostly because of fatigue. But thanks to excellent organization and good cooperation with all parties, no significant problems have arisen. CITRO has once again fulfilled its mission in an entirely voluntary manner.
