In the commemorative year of the abolition of slavery the Dutch government apologized and that this is not a period but a comma and the king asked to forgive the Netherlands. In this framework there are funds for the islanders to come with projects related to the continuation of the slave-owning past in the current community.
The red line in the talks with the Netherlands is racism, discrimination and colonialism. Buenos Aires dialogue group presented a project to come with a monument with names and fam of those who were slaves obtained freedom before July 1863. The Netherlands agreed to facilitate the monument. I want to bring a discussion coming out of the table conversations that Dialogue groups organize. An important point is whether only the names of the freed people should be on the monument.
Where the names of the slave owners and the part of the Netherlands should come from. In the Netherlands there were also voices to abolish slavery and they should also find a place in the monuments. If we want to combat racism, discrimination and colonialism, we must avoid thinking about the guilty and the victims. Buenos Aires dialogue group is in vogue to go to therapy with the Netherlands because Bonaire and the Netherlands have a history of shared slavery. To keep thinking about money becomes our misfortune and special to be accepted “Who pays is determined”.
The long and frustrating wars must be fought in such diverse fields as: fixing the quality of life, expanding the part of awareness, putting our ignorance into question, doing everything to our prejudices, recognizing our past mistakes. We have an obligation to hang in each other’s
