Popular Academy Errol Scoop, the emancipatory training wing of the First Cause, will start on Monday, April 17 with the course “History and Culture of Curaçao”. There will be 12 lessons in total. The lecturers are historians and gender specialists. Jeanne Henriquez MSc, orthopedist and specialist in educational management drs. Humphrey (Pim) Senior, historian drs. Frank (Max) Elstak, jurist and anthropologist mr. dr. René Rosalia, anthropologist prof, dr. Mary Rose Allen and anthropologist drs. Richinel (Mus) Ansano. The 12 lessons are free. Classes are held every Monday night from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Santa Maria Village Center. Due to the great interest among older adults, the Academy opened 10 more places to participate.
The content of the lessons covers e.g.:
Ancient Africa, cradle of humanity and cradle of civilization;
European colonization of Africa;
Colonialism, slavery and transatlantic trade;
Slavery in Curaçao;
Slavery and the struggle of Tula in Curaçao;
African presence in the culture of Curaçao.
