It is Vital for the Civil Society to Represent the Marginalized People of Bonaire

James Finies 3

James Finies and Davika Bissessar of Bonaire Human Rights have reacted to complaints by Mr. Arthur Sealy and Mr. Willem Cecilia on a popular talk show, suggesting that only the government of Bonaire is willing to represent and interest the people of Bonaire. History shows that citizens’ movements confront and challenge power structures, fight for human rights, and contribute to significant changes in society, proving that they collectively influence progress. Bonaire Human Rights Organization (BHRO) has been providing a platform for the marginalized Bosnians of Boneiru for the last decade.

The present crisis that the people of Bonaire are facing, reduced by 80% to a minority group of just 32% by 2024, is continuing immediately and rapidly eliminating the honours of their identity, culture, language, norms, and values.

The current government, which consists of the same political leaders—Clark Abraham, Daisy Coffie, and Cyril Vrolijk—ku in 2017 to Traishoná and Bonerianonan, while ignoring their rejection of the current status, and voting -No, has allowed the Dutch government to aneksá and ankra give us the Dutch Konstitushon and permanently imposes unequal rights. The Boneiru government is forced to approve and implement what is being done in Den Haag that it illegally imposes, violating internal law.

Mr. Arthur Sealy, politically compromised, was president of the referendum committee in 2004, who will lead the referendum campaign that made false promises that were never made real, misinforming the people of Boneiru and laying the foundation for the tragedy of 10-10-10. Additionally, Mr. Willem Cecilia is also politically involved, playing a significant role in the implementation of 10-10-10 as a griffier, supervising the legal process that puts us in the illegal structure here.

We remember Mr. Sealy and Mr. Cecilia that the primary duty of the government is: to respect, protect, and fulfill the rights of the people. Not for traishonah or violating fundamental rights. We emphasize that the inalienable right to self-determination, established by law and internal treaties, belongs to the people—not to the government of Bonaire or Holland. The right here is clearly violated at the moment when in 2015, 66% of the population rejects the illegal status of aneksashon, an opinion ratified by the Parliament of Boneiru as a legitimate democratic decision.

The lack of respect here is seriously asking questions about representing the autonomy of the people of Boneiru. Confidence among political leaders has decreased, resulting in a lack of voter turnout. The council of 10-10-10 is more important: the local people’s representatives are subordinate to approximately eight entities controlled by the Netherlands that are divided. The majority of voters voted more than 80% on average as of 10-10-10 and approximately 50% of the last election, including Dutch-Oropean people who are leaving Boneiru who have the right to vote after three months. This article highlights the need for BHRO and civil society to fight for the rights and interests of the people.

We urge our stakeholders to recognize and recognize the importance of inclusive representation and to sustain and support the efforts of BHRO and civil society in the fight for justice, equality, and legitimate human rights for the people of Boneiru.
