Home doctors can now write prescriptions electronically

The Mariadal Foundation and the Bonaire Association of Family Doctors signed an agreement to make electronic prescription trafficking possible. This is a major step forward for the service and safety of Boneiro Pharmaceuticals.

By simply pressing a button, family doctors can send their prescriptions to Mariadal’s pharmacies. So patients no longer have to give medications to deliver their prescriptions. After the pharmacy receives the prescription, the drugs are prescribed and the next working day after 3 p.m. they can go for the drugs. This saves the patient many hours of waiting.

The Central Medical Center (CMC) and Bonaire Medical Center (BMC), along with the specialists at Mariadal, were some of the first to adopt this method. However, with recent expansion, this service is now available to all GP practices on Bonaire. The implementation of this project was carefully prepared by a working group consisting of family doctors, members of Primary Care Caribbean, pharmacists from both Botica Sabana and the Mariadal Foundation, and the ICT department of the Mariadal Foundation.

By the end of this year, the track and trace system will also become operational. This gives pharmacies the possibility to send an e-mail or SMS to patients when the medication is ready.
