The Ministry of GMN recently organized a meeting with all twelve operators of the Course to further elaborate and receive concrete instructions on how to deal with the latest coral disease in the Caribbean, Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease.

The Ministry of GMN has been informing the community about this disease and has published the moment that Minister Pisas gave a swim to himself to take note of this situation of attention on which the Ministry has also taken action. During this meeting Dr. Mark Vermeij once again showed the 12 operators in detail how to apply the remedy to combat this disease and also how to distinguish the new disease from other diseases.

There were 10 different operators present and at the end of the meeting they registered to receive the Antibioticum amoxicillin and a syringe which they will use when they swim. The remedy consists of a porridge and a base 2b paste that must be mixed. Fill this mixture in a syringe and under water spray the medication on the affected coral and wrap it around the affected area with your finger. It’s not an easy task, but several operators are collaborating on it because healthy corals are of paramount importance to their industry.

It is possible to arrange a meeting with a final group of twelve more operators and thus conclude that all have received the drug. Corals with this disease can be seen in the white spots that appear on the coral. Minister Pisas took note of the consequences that this disease could have for Curacao and took swift action. Healthy corals are important to our diving industry, but they’re also critical to the survival of the many fish we consume. The Ministry of GMN will continue to inform the community of the actions it is taking to address this problem.
