On Monday afternoon, the Minister of Tourism and Public Health Mr. Dangui Oduber was present at the opening of the important week, “hearing awareness week” organized by quota international of Aruba. There, the president gave a speech and then had the opportunity to take a test of his hearing. For the last 34 years, hearing tests have been carried out during the month of September completely free of charge.
Quota started 34 years ago in the same place of the FEPO. This year the saying was changed to “Hearing Awareness Week”. We knew it before as a Week of breaking the Silence. The number of people under the age of 65 with hearing problems in Aruba is alarming. Therefore, the part of consciousness is very important. This also fits in with the management of the Ministry of Public Health that is based on prevention.
That’s why quota International of Aruba together with FEPO try to raise awareness among the community as much as possible for the care of their hearing in schools and also other organizations. The FEPO is an organization that not only helps to raise awareness but also helps to to improve the communication of a person with diseased ears. This is thanks to the speech therapists and also to the hearing aids they are looking for.
Quota has always and will continue to provide the community of Aruba with information about the causes of hearing loss, prevention measures and the importance of detecting it early by going to regular hearing screening. According to the president, it is important that we are aware that once hearing is lost, it cannot be recovered again. Finally, the president thanked quota international of Aruba and also the FEPO for everything they do to raise awareness among our people about the care of our ears. Prevention is the solution.
