A new memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed at the John F Kennedy School building in collaboration with Education USA. Education Minister Endy Croes said that since 2020 the MOU has been signed but it has never been launched because the MOU was signed and then the COVID was introduced.
This MOU was signed with the US Consul General stationed in Curaçao, but also contributed
to Aruba’s access to Aruba by allowing Aruba to open an Education USA center in Aruba to provide counseling. The office will be located in the former John F. Kennedy School building and will be staffed by someone familiar with the American system who will provide guidance to prospective students and motivate all students with the correct information to choose a course of study in the United States.
According to the Minister of Education Endy Croes through the Consul is doing various other work through contacts so that the country of Aruba can sign agreements with schools that are colleges or universities in the United States. This type of agreement allows for the possibility that the student will not pay the international tuition, but will pay the local tuition.
We all know that a school in the US is expensive and that is why the MOU signed wants to make it affordable for the students of Aruba. A student who goes to study in the United States can pay 20 dollars a year, that’s still homeless and can’t eat ect ect, these are the normal prices.
However, since Aruba has a MOU with the school and the student is recognized for a local tuition instead of an international tuition the price of the school is reduced by almost 60% where the student gets a school there for about 6 thousand to 7 thousand dollars per year and besides that there is an Aruba tuition where the money can help and it can be enough for the student to live and study in the United States.
According to Education Minister Endy Croes a $20,000 to $30,000 school that is the standard price in the United States or Aruba is not affordable, so the student creates a debt and at the end of the day is too old to pay for such a school for them. Now these deals are opening up new avenues and doors for students.
However, in all this process what is very important is that the children who go to the Netherlands where it turns out to be much cheaper because they have families, often we also know that the percentage of young people who return to Aruba is very small.
Students who are going to study in the United States at the end of their studies because of their VISA must return to Aruba, they will not be able to stay in the United States, which means that Aruba will receive its students back to work for their country Aruba.
