Wendrick Cicilia is a young politician affiliated with the AVP party. The young politician believes that for a long time there was a feeling among young people and professionals that felt the effect of political decisions. Currently there is a direct political effect and consequence in every household in Aruba.
As per Wendrick Cicilia in recent years has seen in the leadership that the political decisions of the government are the ones that are responsible where they formulate their policy and the policy is what they implement and this is either for the benefit or against the community. It is therefore important that we have a more engaged and active, critical and participatory community as we help parliament to control these developments.
He believes that the Dutch government collapsed because it was not effective in solving the problem. A government must meet the needs of the community and that is necessary to create the confidence in the government. The economy in Aruba is suffering based on the government decisions. Politicians that accepted these from the government. One of the bad decisions was the BBO at the border which met with resistance from many trade unions, but also the citizen directly who found themselves confronted with an abusive rise in prices for services and fuel.
According to Wendrick Cicilia in this whole discussion the BBO at the 7% border creates for the government a financial space of 50 thousand florins, all this someone has to pay and in this case the community of Aruba will pay for it. The BBO at the border has come with a paralyzed economy. Central bank reports indicated that investments have declined and opportunities are scarce.
Currently there is a large group in our community that socially suffers from the developments that are delayed due to lack of money. More than 50% of the community lives below the threshold required for survival. This situation is causing a lot of depression and stress in our community directly in every household in Aruba.
However, we cannot deny that Aruba has a national debt and this is not something that we can deny, but simply to cover the financial columns to understand the misery of a community is not a right decision taken by the current government.
According to Wendrick Cicilia at the moment Aruba is in a crisis of authority and of certain basic norms and values in governance that Aruba needs a government that directly and effectively and efficiently addresses the needs of the community at this time.
The discussion of the RAFT is a very interesting and the Dutch position so that Aruba can fully put this discussion in a context where it should be realized that the government received a large sum from the Dutch government to cover its operational costs, but also the face and the subsidy that was granted, but all this should be allocated in the statutory and non-civil context.
According to Wendrick Cicilia the way that RAFT is, as a condition to pay back and if Aruba does not accept this, Aruba will have to pay his debt at a higher interest rate. However believes that we have to tell Holland that Aruba does accept this the way Holland is asking for, but let Holland be awe that what Holland gave was a help, that Holland does not see this way. When Aruba received this money Aruba was vulnerable.
It is incredible to believe that Holland does not stand for what is his responsability, that in a sense the Dutch government has the responsibility to help Aruba. But if we see, that at the moment more crucial, Holland is misusing the statute and impose a financial supervision on something that belongs to Aruba’s internal affair, which is unconstitutional on the Kingdom’s level.
