Minister Charles Cooper of the Ministry of Transport, Transport and Urban Development recently met with the College of Financial Supervision (CFT) to exchange views on funds for the implementation of the multiannual road maintenance and development plan for the Rif and Colon area. Minister Cooper knows that there are several roads on Curacao that need maintenance. For this reason, the Minister has drawn up a multiannual plan (MAP) to tackle this problem. To achieve this, funds are needed. In this context, Minister Cooper met with the CFT.

At the meeting, Secretary Cooper presented the plan and said:

  • This plan is a priority,
  • The government is working on a National Investment Agenda, and the MOP is an integral part of it.
  • There will be cooperation during the implementation of the MOP with all ministries involved at the time they are concerned,
  • The money will be used for vehicle taxes,
  • It is necessary to ensure the implementation of the law.
  • The internal capacity of the Public Works Department (OW) should be strengthened with support from the Rijkswaterstaat and the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.

The development of the Rif and Colon areas was also discussed. Several projects, both public and private, have been implemented in the Rif area in recent years. This was done with the aim of making the whole area flourish. They discussed the role of VVRP in developing urban planning policy, identifying potential investors to invest in the area, a supervisory structure, and the necessary implementation capacity.
