With a strong population growth in Bonaire, the demand for social housing is also increasing. Stichting Pensioenfonds Caribisch Nederland (PCN), as one of the four members of the Consortium, has extended and broadened its financial support to Fundacion Cas Boneriano (FCB) this year.
FCB’s construction activities in the neighborhoods of Hato and Nikiboko, among others, will generate more than 400 social housing units. Most of these will be for rent, but some will also have their own homes. Apart from the fact that more houses are being built than originally planned, construction will also be considerably faster, according to the FCB.
For the new housing projects in Nikiboko and Hato make more use of sustainable energy supply, for example by installing among other solar panels and batteries. In addition to ‘green’ energy, relatively much attention is also paid to vegetation (landscaping), to promote the living and living conditions of future inhabitants. New to Bonaire is the fact that the keys in the new bars will consist entirely of baked bricks.
In order to work faster, FCB will work with a wider number of contractors to realize the foundation’s drinking plans as quickly as possible. In addition to meeting the housing needs of future farmers, it also stimulates the local economy as much as possible. In 2022 talks were held between the Public Entity Bonaire and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Kingdom Relations to regulate the rental market in Bonaire and to attach a subsidy to it.
Consortium
In 2019 it announced the creation of a consortium of 4 mortgage financiers, including three from Corsou. The consortium is formed by Vidanova Bank, Vidanova Pensioenfonds, Foundation Pension Fund Island Curaçao and PCN. Earlier this year all four members of the consortium extended and expanded their support to accelerate delivery of social housing on Bonaire.
