With Innovative initiatives DRH are modernizing the public sector

Cu Iniciativanan Innovativo Drh Ta Modernisa Sector Publico

The Department of Human Resources, DRH recently introduced innovative initiatives that focus on the modernization of the workforce in the public sector and government departments in Aruba. The national decree on performance evaluation of government work (AB2022 No. 165) entered into force on 1 January 2023, introducing performance management, a well-known and common practice in the private sector and now also in the public sector. This step marks a significant step forward in creating a transparent and motivating work environment for all Government employees.

Contrary to some misconceptions circulating in the media, Performance Management provides the public sector with a system that supports open and constructive dialogue, so that the public sector receives recognition for its efforts and progress. This policy is based on the demands of public workers who want to see a fair and transparent system that stimulates and motivates all public workers who give their best by indicating the points of improvement and strengths in the different moments of the conversation. DRH supports the importance of appreciating and recognizing outstanding performance, and this policy seeks to inspire employees in their work to provide exceptional services to the community and across internal Government departments.

To support the development, DRH introduced its HR-portal, a website with important information for Land employees, which improves communication between Government departments and all public employees. Through the HR portal, employees can keep themselves informed about the latest regulations, news and developments.

Also, DRH launched its digital education platform called Land Aruba Academy. In May, the platform was successfully introduced. Use of the platform is free for all government employees. All registered public workers now have access to a comprehensive collection of more than 700 courses, webinars, masterclasses, and articles customized to the needs of each professional. The objective is to give public employees the ability to continue developing their skills and acquiring new knowledge at no cost.

More projects (among other workshops) will soon follow to focus on knowledge and development for the training of public workers.

These initiatives demonstrate the Government’s deep dedication to modernize management practices and provide the necessary tools for the personal and professional development of every public servant.

The ultimate goal is to achieve a stronger, more transparent and motivated workforce, which benefits both the employee and the community.
