Irish singer and songwriter Sinéad O’Connor has died at the age of 56. That confirms her family to various Irish media. The cause of death has not yet been released.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad, let the family know in a short statement.  Her family and friends are devastated and ask for privacy during this difficult time.

O’Connor is best known for her 1990 hit “Nothing Compares 2 U”, a cover of a Prince song. In total, the singer released ten studio albums, of which Im not bossy, Im the boss from 2014 was the last. In 2021, O’Connor announced her retirement, but later recanted.

The singer, who struggled with bipolar disorder, has been in the news in recent years mainly because of statements about her mental problems. In 2021, she released her autobiography in which she talks about her difficult childhood. O’Connor also made several suicide attempts.

The singer is survived by three of her children. Her 17-year-old son, Shane, committed suicide last year. Four days after his death, O’Connor committed himself to the hospital. I’m lost without my child and I hate myself. The hospital will help for a while. But I’m going to find Shane. This is just postponement, she tweeted last time
