On Thursday 29 June, a Dutch Navy and Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard vessel intercepted a boat in the Caribbean Sea likely carrying drug packages. The Netherlands Caribbean Police Corps with the support of Koninklijke Marechaussee (KMar), around 5 pm took over the five suspects and the likely narcotic substances from the Coast Guard at the Chicu Mercelina pier in Kralendijk.

The KPCN immediately began an investigation and confirmed that the drugs were indeed involved. A total of 601.5 kilograms of cocaine was seized and immediately destroyed. The five suspects, all of Latin American origin, were arrested in connection with the case. These are a 32-year-old man with the initials J.J.A.O., a 32-year-old man with the initials D.M.V., a 48-year-old man with the initials J.D.P.G., a 36-year-old man with the initials D.M.V., and a 40-year-old man with the initials B.A.N.O. An investigation into the case is ongoing.
