Theodora Gruijters was born on June 14, 1933. At the age of 18 he entered the monastery of the order of the Dominicans of Bethany and on 30 April 1952 took the name of Zr. Hélène Joseph.
Zr. Hélène worked and lived for a short period in the kindergarten in Canada before moving to Aruba on April 12, 1960.
Zr. Hélène lived and worked in Aruba for 26 years in the Marijke House at Kinderhuis Imeldahof and returned to the Netherlands on 11 December 1986.
In the Netherlands she lived for a long time in Klooster in Teteringen and then moved to Magdalenahof in Haelen, where after a short period of illness, on 3 June 2023 she died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 89.
We thank God for all the years of love and dedication with Zr. Hélène gave to the people of Aruba, educating our children in Imeldahof.
Zr. Hélène will always be remembered as a person who loved Aruba, Kinderhuis Imeldahof, her children and who always carried Aruba in her heart by always addressing us in our Papiamento language.
The Board of Directors of the Bethany Chapel Foundation and all its volunteers thank Zr. Hélène showed us and the support she gave to our exhibitions and projects.
The Board of Directors of the Stichting Kinderhuis Imeldahof and the Bethany Chapel Foundation sends an invitation to a Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in the Bethany Chapel, Imeldahof cloister, on Thursday, June 8 at 6:30 p.m. for the intention of resting Zr. Hélène.
