The initiative aims to celebrate the local people who embody the spirit of Bonaire and encourage visitors to share positive stories about their experiences with the locals on the island.
Junela Nicolaas was recognized for making a significant impact on visitors to the island, exemplifying the great service that the people working in the tourism industry are providing to visitors. She was nominated by Mike and Suzanne Baach, who shared a heartwarming story of her exceptional hospitality. They first met Junela several years ago while she was working at the Courtyard by Marriott, where she gave them a great overview of Bonaire. They later saw her working at the airport where she recognized them despite a long gap, even hugging them during a flight delay, making them feel welcome and appreciated. This embodies the long-time commitment of Bonaire “Once a visitor, always a friend”.
The Tourism Corporation Bonaire congratulates Junela Nicolaas for her outstanding contribution to the tourism industry, and for being an exemplary representative of our local people.
The Bonaire Friends campaign is an ongoing invitation to visitors to share their stories about locals who have made their experience on the island memorable. Visitors are encouraged to submit their stories, photos, or videos to the dedicated Bonaire Friends page on https://bonaireisland.com/bonaire-friends/.
