In recent days, delegates from all six islands of the Caribbean part of the Kingdom have taken part in the EU Funds Workshop. This workshop has been specifically set up to look at how the Kingdom can work together to raise more EU funds for the islands. In addition to the workshop sessions to come up with a plan of action, the participants visited two EU-funded sites on Bonaire yesterday, including the sewage treatment plant at WEB and the Galileo project.

These projects are tangible examples of how Bonaire is using EU funds. Participants were briefed on the two projects. A number of islands have already shown specific interest in learning more about Bonaire’s implementation of these projects and its commitment to further develop the island. These visits are now being used to consider how the islands can jointly set up possible follow-up journeys.

The beginning has been made in laying the foundations for jointly exploiting the opportunities and possibilities as Caribbean parts of the Kingdom. An important step for the islands and input for Special Envoy Edison Rijna to include in the plans for the further implementation of his contribution to this.
