The Foundation of Women in Law Enforcement (Fundashon MUA) celebrated last Thursday its 17th anniversary. This took place along with the celebration of Public Employee Day.

The Foundation of Women in Law Enforcement consists of 5 organizations that have women in law enforcement in service. These are the Police Force, the Customs Force, the Curaçao Detention and Correction Centre, the Volunteer Corps Curaçao, and the Coast Guard.

The afternoon began with a presentation by Reverend Canon Louise de Bode-Olton of the Anglican Episcopal Church “Church of the Resurrection” who drew attention to the future of armed uniformed women to eliminate stigma and discrimination in the armed uniformed body; to stand for what is fair and inclusive in the law enforcement corps in the public sector; for their radiant beauty to inspire the community and young women and for them to be the vehicle to make armed uniformed women more visible and more aware that their contribution makes a difference to achieve a better community for all.

The next presentation was by police officer Thaïma Osepa MBA who, following the topic of ‘Empowered women, empowering other women’, showed that as armed women in uniform, we must complement each other and not compete with each other.

Another speaker was Pedzi Girigori MSc, Head of Operations at the Curaçao Meteorological Department who elaborated on Sustainable Development Goals and gender inequality.

Her message was that women have not yet arrived in our developed country and that we must break with the current stigma that exists of how we treat women and how we treat men.

Finally, there was speaker Reyna Joe, the organizer of the Annual Female Leadership Conference in Curaçao since 2004, who motivated the women in law enforcement to document themselves in books to motivate, and empower ambitious young women, while their experiences are shared.

Prime Minister of Curaçao Gilmar Pisas honored the women in law enforcement with his presence to also celebrate with them.

The Prime Minister eloquently showed how important armed uniformed women are for the civil service.

At the end of his presentation, he signed the Manifesto of the Foundation of Women in Law Enforcement which calls for inter-ministerial cooperation and cooperation on the part of government to achieve goals for the benefit of public employees, services, and the community of Curaçao.

This Manifesto is signed annually, within the International Public Employee Day framework, to reaffirm cooperation and collaboration.

This interesting program ended with a speaker’s panel where they debated with those present on how they as empowered women can empower the community of Curaçao. They also pointed out that as a woman in law enforcement, you must be well prepared, and for that you have to read a lot.

That is why all participants were given one or more books.

It is also important to know how our community functions and what is needed in order to implement the Sustainable Development Goals.

Balancing women in leadership and decision-making positions must be achieved, in order to have a real reflection of men and women in our community.

Organizer of the event and president of the Foundation of Women in Law Enforcement Casandra Martha at the end thanked all present and affirmed for those present that their work is of great value for a healthy community, and she also thanked the Master of Ceremony Jeannique Sillie for the job well done.
